"Philoptochos" means " the friend of the poor". The Ladies Philoptochos Society was established in 1931. This is one of the Largest Womens Philanthropic and Religious Organizations in the United States. The Ladies Philoptochos Society of Kimisis Tis Theotokou was established in 1980. The Archdiocese has proclaimed Philoptochos the mothers of the Greek Orthodox church. It is dedicated to the community and committed in helping our parish grow. The Ladies Philoptochos provides assistance to the needy" within and outside the Greek Orthodox community, by special fund raisers. The National Philoptochos projects include helping victims of heart disease, cancer, Aids, drug abuse, as well as assistance to the elderly, orphans, social services, national disasters and more. Our local chapter has been involved not only in these worthy causes, but also busy providing vital services to our church and community, from decorating the church for religious holidays, Palm Sunday luncheons, food drives for the poor, helping the needy of our community, interior fund and building fund donations, roof fund donations , and the ecclesiastical needs of our church. New members are warmly welcomed. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 8 PM at the Kimisis church hall.
