August 14, the Feast day of the Dormition or the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is the most important Marian Celebration on the Christian Calendar. The four hundred member families of the Kimisis Parish played host to the countless Orthodox pilgrims who assembled to offer prayers and supplications to our Lord through the intersessions of His beloved Mother and High Patroness of the Greek Orthodox Parish of Holmdel, New Jersey.

Fr. Panagiotis Lekkas, the Rev’d Pastor and Spiritual Leader of the Church, offered an inspiring homily tracing the life and the works of the Blessed Mother of God. Father taught us about her divine inspiration. As she was informed the exact day of her earthly demise, she rejoiced and looked forward to being reunited with her Son and our God in the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Church Chanter, the Parish Council, the Philoptohos Society, the Sunday School leadership and the student body, as well as the Greek School staff and students were present in full compliment. The Officers of the Parish Council secured the reverence and order of the arriving congregants, as well as a plethora of pilgrims who traveled from many points North and South, to attend this glorious celebration.

A complimentary banquet followed the religious services in the adjacent Community Center. Many thanks were extended to the National Herald, the unique Greek-American daily Newspaper in the United States.

Kimisis is a leading parish of the Metropolis of New Jersey and most supportive of all Archdiocesan and Metropolitan Departments and Programs including the Office of Education.

May the prayers and blessings of our Holy Mother enlighten and inspire us as we continue our faith journey that hopefully will lead us to Salvation.
